Unwilling to pay for a playdate

Post by serenegohsuilin » Thu, 27 May 2010 12:48 am

I've been attending playdates here in Shanghai for free but my search thus far for playgroups in Singapore are chargeable?? I thought playgroups are meant to be a causal get together so that our kids can play and the moms/dads can chat.

I'm returning to Singapore (I'm Singaporean btw but have been living abroad) this July and looking for playdates for my 11 month old (will be 13 months by the time we return). I truly appreciate the times I got together with other moms, esp when living abroad as a new mom. I'm willing to host a session for a start and perhaps rotate venues if there are any other willing moms/dads. Anyone interested can email me at [email protected]. I stay in Bukit Timah.

Thanks.

Playdates and playgroups are different things. Playdates you have with friends, playgroups are usually organised events where you have to pay.

Oh, we use the terms rather interchangeably here in Shanghai. Well, I'm looking for playdates then. The little one is attending gymboree playgroup (if I may call it, we term the organised play "play class") and it's really not the same as playdates where it's free and easy. I think the playdates really helped her get through the separation anxiety phase.

Thats right.. Playgroups are like 2-3hours lessons and playdates mean play with other children.

This is not exactly true - there are several "playgroups" here in singapore that you do not pay for. Both of my children have been in playgroups here for years that we did not pay for. Check out meetup.com (search baby group singapore) for listings and also the AWA, BWA, ANZA.
