Stuff to carry from India to Singapore

Post by MB_SGExpat » Wed, 26 May 2010 5:02 pm

Hi,

I shall be relocating from India to Singapore soon with my wife and 3 year old kid. Can someone please let me know what all bare essential stuff I need to bring from India while relocating.

Also, are the condos in Singapore contain stuff like furniture, white goods, utensils etc.

Thanks in advance for all your help and responses

The clothes on your back and a fist full of cash or credit cards and a hotel reservation unless you have a short term housing arrangement already set up. Oh, you might want to bring any meds that your/spouse/child are on - at least enough the keep you out of trouble for a couple of weeks until you can get a clinic sorted out should you need them. That should get you started nicely. Everything else you can get here. Or, if you are being paid a huge relocation allowance, well, you can bring it all if you want, but frankly I'd leave the white goods in India. Most units are partially furnished but that can mean white goods only or could have some furnishings as well. Do a search of this board as to the pitfalls you should be aware of when renting here.

If you're getting a relocation allowance then I would suggest you get all your utensils- steel utensils are expensive here, also personally its a huge hassle to restock the kitchen. I got most of my airtight plastic containers and my utensils. As far as white goods go, no need to get any as most condos have them. I only got my washing machine because it has a warm wash feature that I find very useful for household linen.

Do not get any furniture-most homes are furnished and you will find your stuff jostling for space.

If you do not have a Relocation allowance, would work out cheaper to buy stuff here.
For those who fight for it, life has a flavor the sheltered will never know.
