what to do if you can't get in

Post by lapalette » Mon, 24 May 2010 7:24 pm

OK, we're moving to Singapore in less than 9 weeks! We have been waitilisted at one school, didn't bother with some others due to lists, and have been rejected by one! Here's the thing--I have kids who fall under Special ED here at home--however, they no longer receive any special services and are totally mainstreamed!! All they need at this point are visuals and a little extra response time. My 6-year-old is reading and comprehending 5th grade books, knows her times tables, etc. She's just a little socially awkward. My 5 year old has anxiety, but has mastered coping skills this year--that's it!! ISS just rejected them because they didn't have adequate resources--what resources? They don't have use visuals? I'm confused.

Sorry, I'm a little peeved right now. What happens if we get there and they aren't accepted into school yet? What do I do? :???:

We are in the same boat. We have one child with VERY mild special needs, who is successful without support at a very academic school in the UK, yet the private schools in Singapore will not even consider him it seems. They did not want to even speak to his teachers or his headmaster. I did not want to be rude, but the truth is that his current school is significantly more challenging than these Singapore schools we have looked at. To me this is tantamount to bigotry, but perhaps I am just feeling a little sore. I have two children, ages 9 and 6, soon to be 10 and 7.

Perhaps we should keep in touch. We will be arriving in August. When are you due? We will try to find and apartment near Orchard, I think.

Isn't it frustrating?! My husband's company put us in touch with a relocation company who has a education consultant helping us. Bottom line I am leaving early to get these kids in front of schools in person to meet them. Some of the smaller ones are willing to meet them. I think I'm leaving the states on July 12 and getting there the 14th. My husband George follows 2 weeks later. Email me anytime at [email protected] and we'll keep in touch. My kids are 5 and almost 6. We'll have to meet!
