State funeral for GKS, not for OTC?

Post by Koalabear » Sat, 15 May 2010 2:07 am

I was wondering who has the authority to put on a state funeral for the deceased. Is there a committee board or just some random guy in the government? Im very surprised that Ong Teng Cheong did not get one but some deputy minister get it?

I work to live and not live to work.

Koalabear, echoing SMS, MS is quoted for truth.

Go do some research on Ong Teng Cheong and you will know why he didn't get a state funeral. And also why have an idea why we have such a staid, bland president right now.

Great job to have though.

I am not into politics but recognize those two names. They are the old guards, GKS being the same generation as LKY and Ong Teng Cheong the next. OTC had specifically requested for a private affair and his kids carried out his wishes. It has been said that a state funeral is not in keeping with Goh Keng Swee's persona either and his family has to be persuaded to do this. He is a very private and humble person, preferring to do his good work behind the scene while LKY does the talking. LKY is a lawyer :P . He did not even want a biograhy written about him. Some people just like to be left alone. It is not an uncommon sentiment. They don't enjoy being the center of attention.

GKS is the brainchild behind programs like Central Providen Fund, National Service, Economic Development Board and student streaming in schools.

Dr Goh isn't suited for politics because his oratorical skills puts ppl off unlike LKY (ppl prefer to read what he speak then listen to him speak)and Dr Goh don't like to hug babies or shake hands due to his reserved, shy nature as described in his biography by his daughter-in-law.
Goh's second wife issued a statement claiming that Goh had not been consulted on the book and had indicated to her that he did not want any book to be written about him. "Therefore, the publication of this book is contrary to his wishes, and is a show of disregard and utmost disrespect to him."
