Hi, I am Danish guy currently on a social visit pass in Singapore since February 26.
I came to Singapore for a PhD at NUS, which unfortunately didn't work out. However I have been approved for a position as research assistant, and am now awaiting the paperwork to go through at the university, where after I will get my work permit. This could take 1-2 months, and by then my visa will run out. (I can stay till May 27).
Can I extend my social visit pass further than the 90 days I have already been awarded? Or should I apply for work permit? (My job is not officially granted yet.)

You can try to apply for an extension and the may give you up to an additional 90 days provided you haven't had any extensions yet. If that fails, you might have to do a visa run to Malaysia. This might be gotten away with once or twice but eventually, you will end up with 3 days to collect your stuff so it's better to try getting the extension first.

Thirty days pretty standard, but they can give up to 90. If you are from a country that qualifies for 90 SVP without advance visa (which I believe you are) then on the application you need to request 90 days. Shouldn't be too much of a problem, but even if they don't, you would probably get the 30 days extension and then if you needed to make a single visa run to Malaysia or somewhere else in the vicinity, make it a 5 days vacation and then come in again (do it by air not ground) and request a 90 days visa. Should get you at least a 30 day one and who knows.......

Hi and thank you for all your replies. I ended by taking the trip to JB since I wanted to see the place anyways... What a dump hole, but okay they had nice seafood
When I came back to Singapore I got a new set of 90 days social visit pass. I ask myself the question of why I even have to leave the country and not just get an infinity pass, since it is that easy to get a new? But I guess there is and endless stream of questions you could ask about the Singaporean bureaucracy.

I'm newbie from Indonesia...
I've E-Xtend for 1 month, and it's already finished on 3 Jun 2010..
I leave Singapore that day also...
Please kindly advise about how can i go back to Singapore again?
Is it alright after 5 days i go Singapore?because i've read another forum told that it's better more than 5 days i should go there again...
Is it okay if i use the same address in D/E card when i go to migration at airport?and what should i write on how many days living in Singapore?
Thanks, for your helpful advise...

You should leave Singapore for a minimum of 5 days. Obviously more days is better though. Address on D/E card is immaterial.

They wont give you 90 days on a social visit pass unless you are from a select number of countries like Aust, UK or US. So it's best to put 30 days down rather than have them raise eyebrows.
Lots of businessmen who come to Singapore regularly, or for the matter Oil Field workers (I was one of them for around 12 years here) have a normal place that they stay, it might be a low cost hotel, friend, or relative. They use the same place each time. What does raise eyebrows is doing constant VISA runs instead of being here on a residency pass of some sort.
