Be aware that this problem may happen again, it happens occassionally to me too, last night in fact! So connecting the fixed cable can help.
Is it something specific to Singtel Mio? I would say typically this kind of problems are due to a malformed dhcp record either at the host or client side then changing "air" to the ethernet cable may not help too much.

I think maybe it is specific to the MIO, it needs to be configured correctly I had Singtel talk me through it because I kept dropping the Internet connection on a fixed line, so I had to set up proxy.singnet.net on the fixed line.

The mio router is not good at all, I also need a booster and I'm only 3 meters from my TV, though no direct line of sight for the wireless and difficult to locate the router to get full house coverage.

My wife has a new computer we use on wireless and it is struggling to keep connection, i noticed the phishing security takes far too long and times out the connection on wireless... Not sure if i need to get into the wirelss web control panel to adjust the time out just yet.

My netbook however has no problem at all staying connected, so the wife's lab top is kind of strange to figure why, it doesn't connect to the web every click, i must try 2 or 3 times before i get the web page.

I haven't yet put the fixed line into this computer yet! As it shouldn't really need it with the centrino wirelss chip. So I'm thinking even though the singnal shows good or excellent, there is still intermittent wireless connection to the web.
malformed dhcp record

Yes that is the problem the DHCP relay and Vendor ID the matching of the IP & DNS but discovering why and where it is on a wireless connection isn't easy. I can restart the computer and it can correct the fault. Messenger troubleshooter is good to identify a gateway problem, or port problem.

The wireless troubleshooter is useless every time and the repair function never works...though fixing the cable will cure the problem for a while timing out is a problem i have noticed hence i stopped the phishing security..

I did try several ip addresses from the command prompt that timed out, though they were overseas the problem happens if the computer is left on all night in standby mode once i have the connection i can hold onto it for hours without a problem, leave it overnight and its toss of a coint if its going to work or not. But i can always solve the issue but not cure it.

Because it's a spammer so it has to say something. Didn't you see the links in the signature? :P

But it's history now!
