Advice - Hesitation and procastination

Post by ong_ger » Sat, 01 May 2010 2:56 pm

Hi all, i need some advice. I am currently looking for a job and previously working in admin and sale related job in different kind industry, been jumping here and there until lost the way and everything go back to the very basis as i was encounter problem. I am just angry with people around and discriminate people around me and didn't talk to them and do something funny to them. I am actually not a talkative person but at work i just donno what to talk about but working and i can't think of what to say, normally what are you guys talking about with your colleague?

Beside that, now i am still looking for job and i got the experience in different field and mostly in the admin and sale related job but i am still not confidence to deal with admin job because i had encounter problem dealing with people around me. Should i change my direction into totally sale related job as a way of training myself talk to people but all will start from a basic with low basic pay (Excluding Sale allowance) where is very different from previous job where every month get steady income of higher than what i want to go for now? will that effect my future prospect and future pay? is there any affect if i change back to admin in term of basic pay and future prospect?

I got a lot thinking what to do but hesitate to go ahead doing it? :-|

From what I understand from your post, I think you have trouble making small talk and need to work on your people skills. You need to appreciate that going into a Sales job "to improve people skills" is probably not the way to look at it. If you get into a job assuming that your skills will improve by virtue of being there, then you will most probably end up doing badly which will again affect your self esteem adversely.

Instead, you should probably get feedback from your friends and consciously work on this. Observe someone at work who is good at small talk and liked by most people and try and learn. The idea is not to transform into a glib talker but to learn enough to get by :-) And theres no shortcuts to this. Goodluck.
For those who fight for it, life has a flavor the sheltered will never know.
