Indian family moving from US to Singapore

Post by ananta » Sat, 01 May 2010 5:09 am

Hi All,
I have read the posts on forum. We are moving from US to Singapore in June. Afterall, everyone needs to do smthg diff at one point in life :-)

We are planning to live in East Coast. My DH will be working in Changi Business Park. I really like Costa del Sol but looks too expensive. Bayshore is better in terms of affordability. I looked at Mandarin Garden also, the attractive feature is underpass to East Coast park and a Kindergarten school within the complex.

Our kids are 5 and 3. NPS is a choice right now but considering other Kindergarten options also.

I'm contemplating to put my older one to local school next year, lets see..

Pls comment on condo and school, two most imp decisions.

Also, what is a good service appt? Is there anyone in East Coast. I cudnt find any. If not, then on Orchard Rd will do.

If you are looking at "The Bayshore" better if some other option is there. The condo is too small to have any worthwhile activities. Kids will miss the open space.

In the East Coast you can look for Mandarin Gardens, Bayshore Park, condos near Amber Road, Neptune Court somewhat..

2 Indian schools are mainly considered GIIS & NPS. NPS is said to be better. Check it in terms of play area. GIIS East coast has a large play area & is quite ok.

Not aware of any Service apt in East coast. But if you/ company can afford Orchard Road nothing like it.

Thanks SingLife. Thanks about the tip for Bayshore. We’ll consider Bayshore Park.

Service apt will probably be in Orchard Rd area, that’s what they said. Will find out the name. Anybody stayed in service appt and have a recommendation?

What are the options for KG2? I am thinking my older one who is 5 can goto a KG close to home and join local school next year in P1. Do any Indian parents do it or mainly send the kids to Indian school?

I can also recommend Cote d'Azur opp. Parkway Parade mall in the East.
As for schools, i heard that GIIS is quite good. Of course, there are several int'l and local schools which are good/excellent !

Cheers

Hi prav, thanks for the tip about cote d azur.

Hi hg, costa is really nice. For us, Sea view is not important. Amenities and kids company is really important.

Budget is 3000 for 3 bedrooms. I hope there will be some nice ones in this range. Don't need furnished house as our furniture is being shipped.

My kids will attend private kindergarten this year. Next year, when my older one goes to Grade 1, can make a decision about NPS/local school.

which kindergarten options are good for 3 and 5 year olds?

any feedback on service appt around orchard rd?

Hi Ananta,

Not sure if you already have Service Apartment information. We stayed at the Leonie View service apartment in Orchard, when we first moved here. Great World Service Apartments on Kim Seng Road in Orchard, is another good one. It is located near a shopping center, very convenient if you are in a rush to get your groceries.

Hi - Did you move in to Costa Del Sol ? What are the areas with a decent population of expats of Indian origin ? We've been contemplating the Bayshore, Cote D'Azur and Costa...

Hi Srx ,

gathering from your post you are looking at the east...and the ones you have mentioned do have a good share of Indians. You could add Mandarin gardens, Villa marina, Laguna Park and the condos off the Amber road.

In recent times there has been a heavy influx of Indian expats and most estates have a fair number of Indian expats but if you plan to live close to the beach then Bay Shore , Costa del Sol and Mandarin would be the places with high Indian expats....do buzz me on 91184556 if you have any queries....cheers
