Sun, Sea and Sand around Singapore

I'm looking for some guaranteed sun while relaxing on a beach. However from my experiences with Sentosa, this isn't possible there as the weather is not trustworthy here.

Just wondering, are there any nearby places where sun is guaranteed and it is possible to chill by the coast? Eg Batam, or anywhere in Malaysia. I don't want to have to venture too far all the same.

you can't guarantee sun anywhere around here really, especially not at the moment when it is rainy most afternoons (Jan/Feb would have been ideal for you!).

Thailand would normally be a good bet, but even there it is rushing towards off season - perhaps east coast Malaysia would be the place to go, although further north than Desaru I reckon as the beaches there aren't that good and the sea isn't very clear (it was similar to the sea here when I was there last week).
