Post by E » Wed, 27 Oct 2004 7:49 pm

Need to know if its worthwhile to bring my existing electrical appliances to the UD, what with voltage difference etc ..

If there is anyone who has any knowledge, please please provide some enlightenment.

Thanks.

Where are you planning to take your appliances? Your subject line indicates the US, but your post says something about UD....

If it's the US, the power is 110v - 60Hz. You'll have to look at your electrical stuff to see if it will run on that configuration using just a plug adaptor. Some things might, but if you are talking kitchen appliances with motors like blenders, food processors, etc., they probably will not work. Same is likely true for large appliances like washing machines & refrigerators. Also, the US is not on the PAL TV signal, so unless your TV is a 'universal' one, it will not work. DVD player would have to be all-region as the US is region 1, not 3 like here.

Hope this helps.

A great big OOPS! about my typo  ... I meant CA, USA.

Thanks for the information, sure helped heaps. :)

Hmmm ... will a power adaptor work for my computer at least?

Once again, thanks.

Most computers will work on either 110v - 60Hz or 240v - 50Hz - sometimes there is a switch on the back of the CPU. It's likely you will just need a plug adaptor. Check your owner's manual or contact the manufacturer if you are not sure.
