If you have a week or so, you can visit few spots I believe. I would suggest Bunaken + Lembeh + Bangka. Diving around Bangka Island is very nice if not better than Bunaken. It depends if you prefer wall diving which Bunaken offers or exploring the surface and big corals (Bangka). With approx. 150 dives on my account worldwide (Caribbean, Red Sea, Asia), the ones at Lembeh were simply outstanding. I didn't know what to expect from muck diving but it is an excellent experience. The amount of strange creatures were amazing.

If you stay at Gangga Resort, which I can highly recommend for the outstanding service, both on land and underwater, you can do all 3 spots from there. If you would like to stay in proximity of Lembeh area, I don't recommend Kasawari Lembeh. I stayed there for 4 days and 3 days diving and I must say, they are far from being good in terms of safety and preparation despite they are not a big resort.

Panglao on Bohol island in Philippines is also a spot which I would like to repeat. I had a good time and diving there with Genesis Divers, who I can recommend.

Going to Mabul for 8 days, oh yes, going out in style.

p.s. will certainly look at Lembeh for the following trip...

I dived once in Manado. I loved it but never did it again because my ears never recovered. I wish it weren't so...

Was that a dive-thing or a Menado-thing?

Cos just personally I'd think of Menado and Mabul as just 'gentle things for more experienced divers to contemplate at their extreme leisure'

it was an inexperienced thing. I didn't want to get left behind so I let my ears hurt. I don't have the best ENT system I've since been told. It's sad to have gotten all excited about a new life of diving...Advice is useful though..

sorry, new here...are you referring that to me...don't know what OIC means.

If you are - Monado was my first. It was a year ago. Nothing since except steroids and crackling in my ear.

Pehrentian Islands - north east Malaysia close to thai border. Great dives. Coral reefs, wall dives and some wreck dives close by.. Gorgeous get-away place too.

JR*, I think with some of these people you really need to use this:
