Where do I find a timber yard?
This is an easy one. There are dozens of them in Sungei Kadut district.
SE, I do actually the same but only occasionally and less shops oriented. Especially industrial districts are very interesting during weekend. Spooky, deserted, with a few Bangladeshi/Indian guys in sarongs wandering around and looking at you as you were a ghost or something.

Yep, a pinkish building on the extended diagonal to the St. Andrews Church. Opposite to Adelphi - a place worth to know if you want to buy hifi A/V equipment.

This is an easy one. There are dozens of them in Sungei Kadut district.
Try googling the following: timber merchant +singapore
There are other scatter throughout Singapore so you don't really need to drive all the way out toe Sungei Kadut although to be honest, your chances are good there for making it in a single trip. There is a timber merchant on Balestier Road just after turning off Thompson Road. It would be behind a blue fence on the left side about a block in.
You can also try Homely Hardware (link is in my links page, centre column near the bottom of page) in Ubi. Actually, if you are a DIY'r I strongly spending an afternoon walking up and down Ubi Avenues 1 & 2 and the surrounds as you can find almost anything you need there. (I used to do a lot of Parquetry with exotic wood veneers, and used to get my veneers there. Also, perspex and other sheet goods or extruded goods.

I made the mistake of going to Mustafa with a baby stroller.

That ain't gonna happen again...
As for Funan, it's a much more pleasurable experience than Sim Lim. On a side note has anyone tried the Thai restaurant there (A-Roy Thai or something like that)?

You would need to say you never heard of it to make a fair comparison

If this is the one on the 2nd or third floor then I tried it a few years ago and it was average.

You've never been to Mustafa?... hahahaha! I think you have to just for the cultural experience. It is like the ultimate department store cum slice of India cum seems to have two departments selling the same stuff at either end. I've heard it even stocks fresh food, though have never got as far as that department!
