Obstetrician and hospital recommendation

Post by Petra » Mon, 29 Mar 2010 7:51 pm

Hi there,
I am at the end of my first trimester. I would like to choose a good obstetrician who will guide throughout the pregnancy and labour. I do not have any contacts, can someone recommend someone really good? Any ideas are welcomed.
Thank you

Hi Petra

I'm at the beginning of my second trimester (with twins) and my obstetrician is Dr Kenneth Wong at the Paragon Medical Centre. You can have a look at his credentials www.obgyncentre.com. I've found him to be very knowledgeable, patient and attentive.

Good luck!

it's good to narrow down your search by knowing what kind of gynae you are looking for (e.g. pro-natural, gynaes who take the lead , gynaes who are more open etc)

hi always google and shop around. but unfortunately not all the gynaecologists have their own websites. And i personally find some doctors' websites pretty offensive compared to what I see in the UK. Here gynaecologists seem to be very aggressive in advertising. Some claim to be "aesthetics doctors" as well and some even sell beauty/cosmetic products !! So check the doctor out well and if you find that they are offering too much, give them a miss.

Hi

two most popular doctors are TC Chang or Paul Tsang. They are both at Thompson Medical which is by far the nicest ward for the deliveries.
Now depending on the type of the birth that you would like...if you are very pro natural and would like to go through labour as natural as possible, then Paul Tsang is your guy. TC Chang is also very pro natural birth but is little bit more open to suggestions etc.

If you are very pro ceserian, then Dr Ann Tan at Mt E is your way fwd as she likes to "manage" her patients and is not very pro-natural birth without any intervention.

Personally i would go with TC Chang as many of new mums always speak very highly of him (and Paul Tsang too)

Hope this is helpful.

I am 19 weeks pregnant and have Dr. LC Foong at Gleneagles Hospital. He's fantastic - doesn't push either c-section or natural. Speaks clearly and I never feel rushed at his appts.

I use TC Chang at Thomson too and find him great. He is willing to listen to what you want from your maternity care and labour and very supportive of natural labour. I already have two children so knew what type of care I wanted, and I've found him very flexible when it came to meeting some of my demands.

Dr Cheng, also at Thompson also comes highly recommended.

Good luck!

I had Dr Paul Tseng delivered my second baby at Thomson. He is pro natural, that's why I choosed him and everything went smoothly during the labour, exactly what I wanted (drug free delivery). I am very happy with him.
