Applying for jobs from the united states - interview issues?

Post by childofprodigy » Mon, 29 Mar 2010 12:17 pm

Hi fellow expats....I'm trying to apply for jobs in singapore from the United States as I am currently living here....

Do you know how I go about the interview process? Can I do it by phone or do I have to come directly to singapore just for an interview?

Thanks a lot in advance!

This greatly depends on your potential employer so I really don't think there is anybody here who knows the answer. Both types of the interview plus a third one: in your country of current residency are common.
Besides, if you will keep writing Singapore all in small letters to the potential employers your concerns may not be really that necessary.

Normally, you would have a telecon interview initially. If you get past that point, they might want to set up a televideo conference interview. If you are shortlisted from there normally they will fly you over for the final interview or conduct an in person interview by someone in the US if they have a office there. More and more often they are requesting that you pay for your ticket and then are reimbursed once here. Some companies, however might make reimbursement contingent on being successful in getting the position. Make sure you have it all in writing before you step on the plane though. You don't need any misunderstanding with 2K+ SGD tickets (Approximate cost from Singapore to US East coast using cattle class on a second rate US airline. More for carriers like SIA.

I just got off s recruitment process in Singapore with a global Consulting major. It totally consisted of three rounds.

First two were done by phone and for the third they wanted me to do it by video conference from one of their local offices to their Singapore office with their senior partner.

However, ended up doing all three rounds over the phone due to scheduling issues.

Its possible to do it without even going down. You might be able to use a local for hire Telepresence unit or so.
