Hi there - hoping for some advice.
By complete oversight, my Mum overstayed her visa by three days during her last visit to Singapore (she came to help with my new baby)
When she left Singapore, airport immigration advised her of the mistake and apparently were quite stern about it. She didn't quite understand what they meant (not the most seasoned of travellers...)
Anyway - she's coming back to visit next week. Can she expect any trouble coming through immigration this time round? If so, what can i do to ensure she has a smooth entry?
Thanks!

Make damn sure she leave on time this time. Other than than, if they were going to do something, they already would have done so. Obviously there will be a flag on her passport and she might have to list her residence address while here but other than that, she should be okay.

She's damn lucky! I believe its 6 month in prison for over staying the visa. She may get a sever reminder on entry! Already in the hall of fame i would think.

I read somewhere that you can even get caned for overstaying (of course it wouldn't apply to women).

Under the Immigration Act, the penalty for overstaying (exceeding 90 days) is a jail term not exceeding six months, and caning not less than three strokes. In cases where caning cannot be administered, the offender will be fined up to $6,000.
The penalty for unlawfully returning to Singapore after being removed is a jail term of not less than one year and not more than 3 years, and a fine not exceeding $6,000. The offender will also be removed from Singapore.

hi,i had the same experience with your mom.it was really my fault that i overlooked the date that the ICA gave me for my extenSion..and i overstayed 3 days..then i just realized that when the immigration officer told me..then they said that i have to pay fine..i waited for about a minute, they photocopied my letter of extension from ICA..then after that the officer told me not to do the offense again?? i want to know if there will be a problem on my next visit there 'coz definitely i'll be back after a month to visit my hubby again..hope you can reply on what happened to your mom on her next visit to SG..thanks so much...

@osod: Oh don't forget to book for a day spa during one of your MIL's extra few days of stay here.

Then she'll really love you!

Whether there will be a problem or not that nobody except ICA can tell but judging from the response you got and some other threads within this board you will probably be let in (unless you have more on your account to be worried about).
