Affordable relocation company to Europe?

Post by $Pripps » Fri, 26 Mar 2010 2:59 pm

Can anybody recommend a good affordable (that is paid by myself and not my company) relocation firm that moves stuff back to Europe (Scandinavia)?

Shipping a container to Europe (or elsewhere) is surprisingly cheap. Add to that fees for formalities, customs, taxes, paperwork (most of which you cannot do yourself) and it is still affordable.
Getting a moving company to your home, packing everything, transporting it to the port, and the reverse process in Europe, is what jacks up prices.
If you are willing and able to pack and unpack everything yourself (incl. making wooden crates for more sensitive items, etc.) and maybe even arrange your own transport to and from the port (e.g. if you have a container truck) - and are willing to assume the risk of damage since no insurance is willing to cover you under these circumstances - then you can save some. In that case approach container forwarding companies, not household moving firms!
If you are sending less than a container (LCL) - sorry, you'll be screwed, as these are much more difficult and costly to ship. Basically, anything filling more than 30% of a 20ft container is cheaper to send as a whole container (rule of thumb).
