We really should have a [/sarcasm] tag.

And no, that wasn't sarcastic. 8-)

the problem is that if you move flats, there is no guarantee that the smells from the new place are worse than this current place. Can you try talking to your neighbour? perhaps they can turn on the exhaust fan in the kitchen when cooking or something

Good luck!

Yeah, I had a good chuckle at her post as well. Only problem is, the OP, if they actually read it, would think she is commiserating with them.
She is quite funny . . . and her nic is probably quite apt! Thanks, dazzlebabe

Er...Thanks???

Thanks for the laugh

Thanks for the laugh. I have only been here two weeks. This site has been a great resource. After setting up home, getting the little one to pre school and not knowing anyone in my building or neighborhood which have all been stressful- this is the best belly laugh I have had in a long time, thanks.
A new family moved onto my floor this winter and since when not only our shared hallway, but also my apartment frequently reeks of whatever they are cooking. The smell (of oil / burning onion / curry / fish and etc) is so strong that it even leeks into every single room and they tend to cook around 12-1 in the morning..
I tried everything, air fresher, candles.. NOTHING works..Its really unbearable going to sleep with a food-court smell in my bedroom at night... Is there any law that would help?
I would really love to move out from this condo, but I am tied up to my apartment agreement and I have heard that local laws are mostly on tenant side.. Is there anything I can do? Can I break my lease?
Solution: Charcoal could remove the smell, you can get this from any supermarket. It can remove all types of smell. I use it for my car cos some people can not stand even perfume!

For the record, coal and charcoal are not the same thing. Coal is made by Gaia and charcoal by man.

Charcoal can really really remove all smell though, NOT Coal, NOT WaCoal! Maybe H1N1 mask can help. Very creative indeed.... It's a pity that you guys have to bear with strange smell and noise. Can you feedback to condo management? Should be their job to make all thing in order. Don't suffer inside!!! Life is short.

I like her "Twin Peak Cold", remind me of Madonna!

Here's the thing...

* You smell something because of the scent's molecules suspended in the air.
* Charcoal removes smells by trapping those scent molecules on its surface. Baking soda works by the same principle.
* eventually, the charcoal will get saturated so you either replace it or reactivate it (usually by 'baking' the charcoal to get rid of the trapped scent)

If the scent is so strong and so penetrating, I'd imagine it'll take a s#!+load of charcoal to get rid of the smell. Per instance. So imagine the amount of charcoal/baking soda/alum/adsorbent it will take to deal with these neighbors. You'll be better off putting ginormous fans or wishing you're upwind of them.

Like I said before, has OP tried discussing it with their neighbors?

PS

I fully support dazzlebabe. Support. Get it? Supp--no? Nevermind... :P
