New expat in Singapore (surprise, surprise)

Postby roberto8080 » Wed, 17 Mar 2010 1:21 pm

Hello everybody,

I joined this forum but I think I forgot to make a proper intro, anyway. My name is Roberto, turned 30 last month, I'm from Mexico, I was living in Australia for almost 4 years until last December. Working in IT around here and very keen to meet new people. Hopefully some Singaporeans as well, I only know like 2 locals!

I joined to the FNDC, so I hope to meet more people around :-)

Hi!

Which part of Mexico are you from? I have been to Mexico but only to Tijuana back in '98.

Oh, you should get to know more locals around here. I am a local btw! :)

Hi all, sorry I forgot to check the forum again, hehe.

I'm from the South of Mexico, Villahermosa, I've never been in Tijuana but we have far better places in Mexico, especially the Caribbean.

@amanda0712: What a coincidence, I've been in Singapore almost 3 months as well. I was living in Sydney, and I managed to visit almost all states and territories except for Western Australia and Tasmania :-)

Oh and thanks for the welcoming messages from all the locals... so what's a local thing to do in here on weekends? (besides shopping).

EATING!

For a local there are ONLY two things that make life worth living. Sales & UFO's (unidentified fried objects). :o

I lived for 7 years in Louisiana and almost two years in Texas.

Yes, I believe you can find tamales here. There are several "pseudo" mexican or tex/mex restaurants here but I haven't eaten at any of them that are here now so cannot vouch for the authenticity of same.

Tamales aren't fried, or at least not in the South of Mexico, they're rather steamed. Would be great to find them here. A Chinese friend gave me some sticky/steamed rice into some green leaves which I found similar, but I forgot the name of the dish.

I tried this Mexican place at Clarke Quay, food is rather limited although tacos were good. Funny thing, I tried to speak Spanish to the waiter but he happened to be Filipino, still he managed to speak a bit of Spanish with me.
