Hi there, from the salary range you posted, you should have a great time here. Doesn't sounds like you have kids to fork out $20K/year in tuition for at schools...so come, enjoy!

Perhaps you just haven't found the answer you want? The truth is out there. Otherwise, best I can say, how long is a piece of string? You want a great life. The term is ambiguous at best. One man's great is another man's poverty level. I know families of 4 here who manage that on incomes of 60K/annum and they are, in their minds at least, living a great life. Some things cost more here, others less. Otherwise, costs taken as a whole are comparable. Quality of life? That's another story and money will not alleviate that at all.

I know this is an old thread but in case previous contributors are still active, I just wanted to say a BIG thank you for all your thoughts in it! Also wondered if it is possible to revive as I have similar questions.

My family is currently in a similar situation and all these previous contributions are useful in helping us think this out. I'm Singaporean, husband and two preschoolers are Canadian (born here). We've been living in Toronto the last 6 years but are considering moving back to Singapore to be close to my family. (Husband's family is 2hrs from Toronto so we don't see them often, maybe once a month). The other reason to move back to give the children the foundation in Mandarin (which is limited here aside from the Heritage 1.5hr once a week free classes here. Also my Mandarin which has been borderline all my schooling life has all but rusted away from underuse since I moved here.) One last reason is that I think my husband and I (in banking/ healthcare respectively) might have better professional prospects in Singapore. We’ve both hit a glass ceiling in our roles in Toronto and are hopeful that we can rise above it if we move to Sg. We have a son and a daughter and would possibly apply PR for our girl and student visa for our son (so no need to worry about the NS).

We are considering moving to Sg to spend the next few years to establish bond w my family (they have never really spend more than a few weeks holidays together before) and establish kids’ base in Mandarin. Then back to Toronto again for the kids' secondary or high school years (say anytime after age 13). By that time, I assume my husband and I in our 40s will (1) want to live in landed property (impossible in Sg but possible in the GTA) and (2) migt have job issues in Sg by then coz we will be in our 40s.

For any Canadians in Singapore/ Singaporeans in Canada I’m just curious, do you have any regrets with your move? What was the worst/ best things out of it? Would love to hear the stories since you’re down a further path than we are.
