PRs granted in 2009

Post by salmanucit » Fri, 12 Mar 2010 8:56 am

Hi,
Is there any one who has information that how many applications of PR were approved in 2009? I listened(may be wrongly) on channel news asia that in 2009, around 59000 PR applications were approved which seems weird. Can any one give me any authentic figure?
Thanks

Salman

Why is that weird? If Singaporeans wont have babies to help with NS duties, then they need to have more PR's and New Citizens. With a fertility rates of only 1.09 they need all the help they can get.

They didn't start cutting back on PR until Sept of last year. The first 8 months of the year were massive as is every year. Even the last 4 months are still seeing PR granted in large numbers but now they are being vetted a lot more to see if there is a possibility of them being just people who are out to abuse the system like so many have been doing over the past decade.

Oh. the number granted PR in 2009? 79,167 to be exact.
And, if you are interested, the number granted citizenship was 20,513.

The above data taken from the official statistical mouthpiece of the gahmen, Singstat.
