my advice is to have a friend check out the room first before booking.

I recall looking for a budget hotel for my father in little india... one of the cheaper places (I don't recall which one it was) was dark, and musty smelling..

to the op, make sure wherever you go , it's also close enough to public transport.

I ended up putting my dad in Geylang.. I think the place was called Sakura ... and it worked out to around $35 a night..

However my father, an obese man who never wears shorts, was reluctant to walk any distance to get to MRT or bus stops..

so in the end we had to waste money on taxis...

What we thought we could save on accommodation we lost on travel cost for him as everything was some distance away from where he was staying.

If you don't mind waiting for public transport in the heat, or walking a further distance to MRT.. then go for the cheaper hotels,... otherwise you might consider paying $20 or so more and finding something a little more central.

i think ibis hotel at bencoolen will be a better choice than hotel81.
