Singapore working contract while living out of Singapore

Post by ralaouet » Thu, 11 Mar 2010 5:52 pm

Hello,
I would like to get your comments and feedbacks about the feasibilitly of signing a local Singapore working contract but living in a neighbouring country like Malaysia, Thailand or Lao.
Hence, I would share my working time between my company office in Singapore and my "home office" remotely.
Many thanks in advance.
Best Regards.
Richard.

It's possible, but you may have some interesting tax consequences. All your income would be taxable in Singapore as Singapore would be supplying the employment pass. I think there is a discussion of sorts on here currently of something similar but doing a daily commute to Malaysia. Same thing though.

If you are paid your salary in Singapore on a Time and Material basis and your company compensates you on a per diem allowance basis for your time in Singapore you might actually end up paying less tax.

So basically you get paid salary only for hours worked in singapore and the malaysian allowance paid by your company is considered expenses incurred on official trips which is non taxable.

Might be scope for abuse...... dont how the gahmen look upon that.
