Great News!!!! Singapore Close door to foreigner!!!!
International relations rely on a lot of hot air and misplaced confidence. Most of the world's currencies are fiat, which means that they are backed by nothing more than the issuing country's governmental authority. Hot air. If a country begins to take actions that the others view as destabilising, the consequences for said country are not difficult to extrapolate.
Singapore lives and dies on the much maligned phenomena of globalization. As it gently, and not so gently as the case may be, screws other developing nations out of resources, Singapore thrives. It does so because it currently fulfils a role absolutely necessary to global trade. International monies flow to Singapore because of its willingness to provide this service and independently of the ability and function of her citizens. As a consequence, most Singaporeans are engaged in service related industries.
Singapore is a welfare nation. Her prosperity depends on international confidence and the ruling party's ability to deliver it. This is similarly true for countries such as Australia and Saudi Arabia. Few Australians have ever visited a mining town, but ironically that is where their prosperity ultimately flows from.
Even if every foreign talent imported were actually a burden upon Singapore, the practice is still a positive exchange for Singapore, since she depends upon the good will of richer nations. If some backward thinking troglodyte does manage to get into power and close Singapore's borders, then you should prepare yourself for trying to feed the second most populously dense country in the world with fifteen square kilometres of agrarian resource. Good luck.
I myself persist in Singapore because of family and the sure knowledge that I could find idiots like you distributed evenly upon the face of the earth. My wife and two children are Singaporeans and I would not be surprised to find many others on this forum in a similar position.

I think most Singaporeans do not hate foreigners, but simply fed up with the unprecedented pace at which PAP is welcoming foreigners. I agree PAP didn't have much of a choice in this globalized economic landscape, it takes quite some time getting used to living with a million more people in a 660 km sq nation when transport and living infrastructure cannot keep up with the demand.montecarlo wrote:Great!!! our government will tighten the policy now to reduce foreigners work here!!! we have fed-up by lots of foreigner coming to our country these few years, at least i can see government doing something good now!!!

Perhaps OP would be happier competing for work against the estimated 180,000 Singaporean Citizens currently living overseas if the government puts plans in place to coax them back?
A full 6% of the Singaporean population living overseas?
If a proportion of these guys come back I could foresee an improvement in the ability of the local workforce to get hired by meaningful companies here. Overseas experience opens the mind and makes it more flexible, automatically points to a person willing to take a risk, or at least a chance on life and has a significant influence on one's CV.

OP, are you being happy to burn the bridge after it's been used?
Hmm, so the SG ministers' salaries are going to have an 8.8% increment. Say if a minister earns 1 million a year, that is an $88,000 increment.
Does the median Singaporean annual household income even come close to that 8.8%? Hardly.
WHO also helps this country to make that nice GDP figure? Without INVITING us foreigners, who would come to visit a fishing village?
And, are you happy your ministers are earning so much of taxpayers' money a year?
