NS obligation for new Citizens?

Post by ful babu » Wed, 03 Mar 2010 10:15 pm

Hi,

Me and my wife got PR through PTS individually at different time. I being a first generation PR in the PTS scheme I don not have NS obligation that I know.

But I could not find any clear rule for the fact that what if we take up citizenship, would I be a NS liable person? and ...

Does it depend on the application process i.e. me being the main applicant or my wife being the main applicant?

Thanks in advance.

Can I know how long you have been holding PR.?

WHen do you intend to take citizenship ?

Are you applying individually or as a family ?

Do you have any kids of your own applying for SG citizenship

Your application for SG will take sometime. I think you will need two years to be here although it shows green. The process may take sometime. It may be quick but I doubt you can get it within months unless you have tons of $$$ to show IRA

You will not serve NS as you are consider first Gen PR when your application for SGer is approve. ALthough you can volunteer in the Police Force or CD after you go the individual training courses..
For Army you will NOT go to sensitive area. To my recollection those who volunteer or sign up for Army if you are first Gen PR becoming SG will be desk bound or logistic end.
I doubt the guideline changed that much but you can always go to nsportal.gov.sg to clarify again with CMPB.
You will have to be naturalise or"doctronise" in order to serve the NS. BUT YOUR Child if you have one will be different if born here.
Hope this help
