moving to singapore this week...help needed

Post by gaurav101 » Wed, 03 Mar 2010 5:00 pm

hi , ive read the forum a bit and some of my questions could be repetitive. would really appreciate if someone can answer these.

1. I am Indian and my gf is Estonian. We are moving from UK. We do not have UK PR and we are not married either. I have a Singapore EP while for EU nationals 1 month tourist visa is on arrival. Hence I believe there is no issue regarding visa on arrival. WHATS THE BEST WAY I CAN GET HER A LONG TERM WORK VISA.

2. I would be earning abt 6500 S$ monthly. How good or bad is that for a couple.

3. I would be working in Fuji Xerox Towers in the city. What should be the districts where i should be lookin for accomodation.

4. whats better condo /HDB considering i wouldnt want to spend more than 2K per month on acco

You can't. Only she can get one IF she can find a job before her visa expire. Even that isn't a guarantee unless she has qualifications of her own.

You might be able to get her a long term social visit pass provided you can prove that you were in a common law marriage prior to arrival here but she still cannot work

The best way of insuring she can stay here is to marry her.

It will be close but it's doable as long as you have a frugal lifestyle and don't blow it all by staying in a condo. (2500/mo up to 25000/mo)

3. I would be working in Fuji Xerox Towers in the city. What should be the districts where i should be lookin for accomodation.

On your salary, at least 4 or 5 MRT stations from the CBD.

You only option will be HDB.

Not that big from practical point of view. condos typically got some facilities like swimming pool, gym, tennis court etc. Newer HDBs looks inside very similar to the condos apartments but you also pay adequately for this in your rent.

To rent - yes.

Yeah, the local classified section of the daily newspaper. Very large.

I'm fairly new to this site so apologies if I'm being dense.

http://www.hdb.gov.sg/fi10/fi10323p.nsf ... enDocument

This link says that only PR can rent HDB and monthly salary should not be more than $1500.

What am I missing?

You are not going to rent directly from HDB. You are going to rent from a Tenant, not from the government, so that rule doesn't apply.

You can start by looking here:

http://www.hdb.gov.sg/fi10/fi10323p.nsf ... enDocument

These are the requirements that an owner must fulfill to rent his place and some info about the prices.

Good luck!

Excellent link! I forgot about that. Anyway, I have added that link to the Housing section of my links page below so it doesn't get lost. It's right at the top of the centre column! Good one mate!
