Wife got job using LOC!

Post by revhappy » Tue, 02 Mar 2010 9:39 am

Hi All,

My wife who is on DP here, has just been offered a job and has got the LOC approved in just 1 day! Boy, I am over the moon. I love Singapore :)

It took about 5 months for her to get the job, thats probably because the market was bad. She is in the field of IT and its a 6 months contract.

I would like to thank everyone for their advice while we were making the decision to move here, especially SMS :)

And, Since this has worked for us, I wish good luck for everybody and would like to say that just keep working at it and you will succeed.

Thanks,
Revhappy

Hi HG,

LOC is "Letter of Consent". A person who is on dependent pass and wishes to work in Singapore can do so if his/her employer just applies for the LOC and no need to apply for any new work pass.

Advantages: Easy to get, usually no restrictions like minimum salary etc.
Disadvantages: It is tied with the main EP holder's EP validity and expires when the EP expires.

Revhappy, I'm happy for you. I like it when someone hangs in there until success happens. Maybe now your own tension levels will subside a wee bit as well!

My congrats to you & your wife.

Any for our readers, I've said this before. You have to sell the LoC to the employer as most don't know about it. Just go to the MOM site and read up on it so you know how to approach the employer.

Thanks for the link SMS.Now all I need to do is to sell this idea to my wife who is too busy enjoying the good life here :-)

Seriously though, she is sick of working for a boss and would much rather start something on her own. I heard something on the lines of starting a company here first and then asking MOM something similar to the LOC Revhappy mentioned "through' that company. True?

Go to the ACRA site and have a read there for more information:
