i absolutely hate the weather here.
from where i come from (HK), it's almost as hot 1/3 of the year, but the rest of the years are better.
and the weather seems to lead to horrible dress sense in singaporeans! (male and female no less...)

That's the whole problem with trying to carry on a discussion on this topic isn't it. It's what I've been saying here for years. It's not the accent. It's all about poor grammar, diction & sentence structure (actually that the real problem, not structure at all - English structure that is). This is why singlish will never be like "American" or "British" or "Australian" English. That's why the pidgin is called singlish just like the pidgin in Papua New Guinea is called Tok Pisin. It's just not English in any sense of the word.x9200 wrote:This is not about the accent.Daz Voz wrote:"As long as the other can understand what he/she speaks, nobody cares what accent they speak. Let me ask a question. Who on earth speaks pure English? Australian, British, American? All these people have different accents but who cares."

I firmly believe that no one country has a monopoly on stupid people--there's one in every country--it's just a matter of how loud they are.sundaymorningstaple wrote:How about idiomatic expressions.nakatago wrote:It is also NOT about idiomatic expressions.

God must love stupid people... he made so many of them.nakatago wrote:I firmly believe that no one country has a monopoly on stupid people--there's one in every country--it's just a matter of how loud they are.

the people are not gracious. no sorry no excuse me no pardon me no thank you.
great learners' driving system but it produces the worst kind of drivers on the road. i wonder why.
they pride themselves as english speaking. more like engRish-speeking.
terrible attempt at faking an accent. i dont expect them to speak like me, just speak clearly!
as much as i love the girls here (for throwing themselves), i've gotten quite tired of the 'pretending to be interested' in your *intellectual* babbling. but you get it.
the weather! tropics i know
cars; a decent car here could cost you an arm.
but knowing i have a great job kinda makes it all worthwhile.
