aka , office politics...ect
Personally I dislike work culture in sg - & that's an understatement. I miss the monthly morning tea sessions and a more relaxed environment I used to enjoy overseas. I work to live, not live to work. There is politics everywhere, but IMHO it is too extreme here. Have been waiting for my knight in shining armor to sweep me up and tell me that I can quit my 12-15 hour a day job and be a tai tai.=)))

Ok i need to stop dreaming and enjoy the rest of my long weekend before work begins on Monday=)

Yup even I am a local here. I feel here the working enviornment is too tense up.

I've already given up this office politics thing in my current company. It's way too much and the company is just local SME with under 50 staff. It's like babysitting five year olds.

A few things I have learned after working two SME companies in Singapore

- Multi-tasking mean doing all the things at the same time and expecting to finish ASAP. It's like do all-you-can job (like eat all-you-can buffet).
- If your job title ends with Executive that means your working hours are unlimited with no OT or allowence.
- Dont try to show off or show some initiative steps or even make a few suggestions, the project/job will be on your head even it's not within your job scope.
- Meetings everyweek mean repeating all the discussion topics until you have some new information to say.
- Prepare to learn about all departments at your company as your boss will start asking you questions about other departments.

More than half a decade around here and still I'm suffering from culture shock. I find that it's all too often style over substance, and that superficiality about credentials and positioning - that drive to be #1, world-class this and that. That sense of sincerity has been lost.

I love the roads here. I can ride my motorcycle at 80-90KMPH here which I can never do in any indian city. Although I am car person and miss driving due to the outrageous costs of owning a car.

A motorcycle@90KMPH is a good compromise :)

1) No daily stabbings, muggings, ASBOs clobbering people.. Not in the news anyway but at least I can still be blissfully unaware when I go for my 2am jog.

2) The condominium concept. When we first moved out here, and into one, I was so in awe of how I could "go downstairs" and have a swim, play some pool, hit a few tennis balls whenever I cared to.. No such thing in London!

3) The consistency of the weather through the day. Sure we all moan about the 30 degree heat but it's so good not to have to carry a jacket with you everywhere just in case the temperature drops.

You haven't been in some of the offices and shopping centers yet then. :-|

Haha.. Touché! Still going for my 2am jog now. Hopefully I don't end up in the news.

Can't say I mind the indoor air conditioning though.. I can't count the number of times I have gone running for the shopping centre when household-grade air conditioners just couldn't cut it. I don't know.. It's just not quite as enjoyable when it's nature dealing you the elements?

Why on earth would you regularly go out and jog at 2AM?!? Do you still work on London time?!?

EDIT: Y'know, just to make you nervous, The Lord Voldemort Times today reports about a gang of six breaking and entering a flat at 2am. Five were caught but one still at large.

Well I do actually still work long distance on London time, now that you've mentioned it. And thanks for the heads up. I have been trying to push my jogs up earlier but nothing better than sinking into bed freshly exhausted from a run.

Also, I take a bit of comfort from the fact that it only made page-random in the Home section.. Surely it's not that bad then! :?

In light of the unfortunately timed crimes popping up in the news, I will now scale my nonchalance (confidence in the good of the country's people, really) down to:

I love being able to stay out past 10pm without having to bring some pepper spray along. (Can one even get that here?)

So, why is this in the "Leisure Chat, Jokes, Rubbish" forum?
Well, it's a bit of all three, really.

- condo living - swimming pool, tennis courts, bbq area, kids play ground, badminton court - outstanding.

- architecture - i find some of the buildings here very impressive - marina bay sands being the latest addition

- singapore zoo - good for the kids

- casino - good for the parents

- expat community - I`d say one of the largest in the world

- food courts & $3 chicken rice set - definitely good value for money

- automated cash card paying at carparks - very convenient

- relatively low crime level

- humidity - good for the skin - i used to get really dry skin in the past

- driving - trafffic here is so good compared to driving in Tokyo
