Hi there,

I had just been posted to Singapore, been working for 3 months now.. wanna go to a near by place called Bintan Island for a getaway. Any advise, anyone? Is it a great beach resort to hang out?

Cheers,
Brown

If you're looking for the kind of vacation where you and yours lock yourself in an expensively outfitted tropical cottage and bonk yourselves silly with the occasional dip in the pool and nasi goreng from room service, yes.

On the other hand, if you're looking for watersports or wild beach parties, no.

Also note that Bintan has two parts: there's the sterile, Singaporean-owned, all-posh-resorts bit on the north coast described above, and there's the 'real' Bintan of appalling poverty, electronics factories, whores and hassle to the south. The two are separated by armed guards to keep the hoi polloi out.

Mana Mana Beach Club & Cabanas is a place like that.

Even for scuba diving it is not that bad, although not comparable to Sipadan of course...
Yeah, I've been to Mana Mana and dived there. Both were IMHO hella overpriced compared to the Malaysian East Coast.
