Receiving Freelance Payment

Post by amarettoSour » Sat, 13 Feb 2010 1:07 am

Hi everyone,

I'm about to receive payment for a freelance work that was done last year before I started working in Singapore and while I was still living overseas last year (it's a late payment).

The payment should have already been taxed locally in my home country. i'm wondering if I have it wired to my bank account here, would I have to pay Singapore taxes as well since the payment is received this year?

thanks!

Income of any kind is taxed where it accrued (i.e. where the work is done), not where it is paid out. Thus in your case Singapore has nothing to do with it.
Whether it is taxable at the time you work or at the time it is paid is beyond my knowledge. I guess the latter, but you better check with your country's authorities.
