Renting A Car: Singapore vs. Johor (Malaysia)

Post by dadelaw » Thu, 11 Feb 2010 5:13 pm

Does anyone have any experience of this? It seems it costs half as much to rent a car in Malaysia as in Singapore. How does one get to Johor? Are there car rental agencies near the border? Is it worth the hassle?

you will need to read the T&C of the rental agreement. usually you cant drive the rental car across the border, vice versa unless you want to fork out a big insurance cost.

stfw for ways to get to JB. when in JB, i use this - www.hawkrentacar.com.

is it worth the hassle? well, what you gonna be doing with the car? only you will know if it is worth it.

I'll second the recommendation for Hawk. Reasonably priced and has branches all over Malaysia, so you can eg. drive one way from JB to Penang, drop off the car there and fly back. Their office is close to the old border, but it's going to be a bit of a hike from the new checkpoint...
