Anyone live at Maplewoods?

Post by mizza » Thu, 04 Feb 2010 3:39 pm

I am planning to move soon with my husband and 2 children (4 weeks and 20 months) and am looking at a 4bedroom place at Maplewoods. Does anyone know how log the shuttle bus takes to get to Newton MRT in the morning? My husband needs to commute to Raffles Quay. Do you like living there? Are there truly lots of mosquitoes near the pool? Is it good for children? Are there any other pros and cons you can think of?
Thanks!

I have a couple of friends living there with small children, they never mentioned the mosquitoe issue nor have I ever noticed it any more than other condos in all of Singapore. It is very much a small community at Maplewoods, very nice and the bus runs at different hours every morning.

Thanks Kimora for your reply.
How about the travel time to Newton MRT on the shuttle bus. My husband would be catching the 8.20am bus. The timetable says it arrives in 15 mins, at 8.35. This would be great, if its accurate. My concern is that it may take more like 30 mins in the traffic, in which case I think we will need to be looking at other condos. Can anyone answer this question?? Thanks!

i'm on the ground floor of Bauhinia and i get mosquitoes coming in all the time when the windows are open. I have a beautiful view but I can't really enjoy it. I've had my place for 6 years now and the mosquitoes are my only major complaint.... and no deck chairs on the weekends if you get up too late!

Good to know, Turnerdhr. I would hate to not be able to open windows for fear of being eaten alive! Do you know about the shuttle bus at all?

We've never lived in here on the ground floor so I must say this is also quite surprising to me. In our previous place (7th floor) we could see a single mosquito once every 2-3 years. Now is much more often, every couple of weeks (5th floor). I guess location can still be a major factor. Maple Woods has a lot of vegetation, its pretty gloomy in its front part and the whole Bt Timah area seems to be kind of more "wet". I was told once by a cab driver that 20-30yrs ago nobody wanted to live there because it was frequently flooded. Never verified this information but perhaps SMS can confirm or deny :)

bukit timah/dunearn is notoriously tight during rush hours. i doubt the travel time would be 15 min from maplewoods to newton mrt, possibly more like 25min. going back home would be even worse due to the bottlenecks nearing sixth ave/eng neo and at the clementi road junction, with all the cars wanting to head onto the PIE and BKE. our kids attend sports classes at turf city at 5pm and we need to leave much earlier to avoid being stuck at this area of bukit timah!

CCK, but again, not a grand floor. Perhaps 3 mosquitoes within 7years. At least 3 windows open 24/7 and a very efficient mosquito attracting device at home - my wife. Yes, it is Singapore, it is almost equator but you may notice not everything goes actually as one could expect - have you notice any bugs smashed against cars windshields?

I completely agree that there will always be a mozzie every now and then, I am just keen to know that they are not a real problem there, especially by the pool. As for the traffic, we experienced the 6th avenue bottle neck this morning while driving there to view a unit. I thought there must have been roadworks, but it was just due to 6th Avenue traffic! Is the traffic always like that!!?? I think my husband would not appreciate a 25 min commute to Newton MRT!

Hi, Im assuming you are no longer living in Maplewoods? I've just moved here recently and on the ground floor. Unfortunately the mosquito problems is just ridiculous!!! Ive called NEA to come round they found larva in a small flower dish left by the condo cleaners.
I moved June 2012 and had a lot of problems with mainly mosquitos. Cleaners are not cleaning/clearing e drainage enough and that results in standing water/pool. Obviously i have complain to management office numerous times and nothing had been done. i recently got into a verbal arguement with the new condo manager bcoz of this. he wasnt happy i put up a small roof to prevent water from coming into my balcony and to help with e drainage. so he send me a letter threating a lawsuit. his reply to my complains was - i dont know. so either my complains was not passed on to him or he is just irresponsible.

so i am at my wits end. can u give some sort of advice of what i can do? i have 2 young kids. and we bought this place. would be easier if we were just renting! btw, we have had a scare of dengue fever we had 3 bloodtests done in sg and in uk - but unfortunately its not a confirm dengue. just VERY low blood count and all e symptoms of dengue. we have had dengue before and of course having it second time might be deadly.
