Can expat kids join the local school mid-year?

Post by KindClare » Mon, 01 Feb 2010 7:25 pm

We are moving this summer and I know the local school year runs Jan-Dec. Are expat kids permitted to start mid-year (I know that it depends on the MOE acceptance, space at the school, and all that) or do they wait until the next school year begins?

Thanks in advance!

We moved to SG at the end Sep 2009, my son had to wait untill the next school year to strat! For us the hardest thing about moving to SG was looking for a school (local school) for our son!! Now he is in primary 3 at Gan Eng Seng primary school.

That is what I was afraid of. OK - no problem. Once we know a bit more, maybe I'll PM you about some of the process you went through to get into and to choose a local school. Thanks!!

Hi--depends if the local school has spots available. Yes, certainly kids join at different times throughout the year. Give the local school a call and let them know when you'll be in SG. The school break in June is a good time to come--a lot of kids show-up in July and other move on to other schools at that time.

Good luck, it can be done!
