National Service for PR granted through spouse scheme

Post by wailing_imam » Mon, 01 Feb 2010 6:14 pm

Hi,

I am a 33 year old UK male recently married to a Singaporean. I have been here for 8 months, and was here for 2 years between 2003-2005.

I would like to apply for a PR with my wife acting as sponsor.

HOWEVER, I do not want to serve national service. Will I have to?

Cheers.

In theory you are liable to complete NS, but from experience, as Mr V has said, you wont be requested to complete.

There isn't any hard fast rule but as you are 30 plus I would quite confidently say you wont have to serve. What the cut off age is nobody knows

Why do so many people want to be PR's and reap the benefits of there new home but not want to participate in National Service?
