I have a love affair with Thailand and would love to live there one day (not likely to happen now I'm married to a Chinese lady

) but by far the best beach I've ever been to is Boracay in the Phillipines.
I've been to Maldives which was absolutely beautiful, but Boracay's beach beats what I saw there and it's not a bad place for restaurants, nightlife etc.. either
Ironically, I've never been to Boracay before. It'll be my first time this month. I just concluded an email exchange with a dive center regarding some scuba diving.
I can share pictures after the trip.
I hope you have a great time (I'm sure you will), regarding food - I couldn't walk for an hour after the buffet dinner at the Boracay Regency hotel, it was good
Be interested to see how the weather is at this time of year as I went in January which was dry season I think, thinking about somewhere to take my parents next year when they come to visit and our new baby (due in December) will be 6-9 months old, Bali is most likely but I'd love to take them to Boracay as long as it doesn't rain all week (which unfortunately happened when I sent them to Phuket in 2010)
D'Talipapa is the way for me, being 'local' and all--shop for seafood in the market and ask an eatery to cook for you.
As for the weather, there is a danger of rain this time of year...

Got bored of the same tropical places. What to head further out, like Australia, Japan or Europe but need to plan really well for these and wait for the right airfares.
You should try Penang. Food, beach, culture, history in one place. Return flights can go between 69.90SGD (promotions) to 140.00SGD (regular) in tickets.
Yeah, I want to try Penang, Tioman and if possible also Taman Negara and Kota Kinabalu.
For Penang and Taman Negara I would rather rent a car from JB and drive. I always love Malaysia because of its abundant and in expensive Indian food and inexpensive petrol, lovely expressways. Langkawi had all these and also had cheap booze. I just loved that place
KL too. They have opened the new Little India at walking distance to KL Sentral. Last time a huge group of my relatives came from India for vacation and we stayed close to KL Sentral and there are so many eateries there, almost as if you are in India, they didnt miss home at all

Hmm for Penang, you can rent a car there after you touch down from airport. But I don't know the rates compared to Langkawi but Langkawi certainly had great deals for car rental. And Little India in Penang is pretty charming.
As for Taman Negara, you do not need a car. You can take a direct bus to Jerantut on tour package. Or arrange for a pick-up from the train station (also as part of tour package) if you plan to travel from Singapore by train (another part of interesting experience). I plan to do that the next time I go to Taman Negara.
Now that you mentioned KL, did you visit the famous Batu Caves?

I also believe Boracay is the best beach quality/resorts/nightlife combination (food is always a personal preference but lots of choices there as well -- and cheap!). I say combination as there are places with very nice hotels/resorts and nightlife but crappy beach (e.g. Phuket) and you still have to go to almost uninhabited islands to enjoy the nice beach.
