I'm an Apple user but I just don't see any use for the new product.

I mean it's not going to replace the iPhone, and at the same time it's not going to replace a laptop/netbook as typing on a screen just ain't gonna feel normal, especially as you need to hold this one with one hand.

I just don't see the point. I have a great Mac Mini (that travels with me between homes), an iPhone that I use as an iPod Touch (because you can't switch off data use completely on Starhub prepaid), and if I really need something big on the go then I'll get a laptop. What the hell do I need the new iPad for?

a) What? No wireless syncing? Very old hat.
b) What? No USB port? C'mon Apple, leave the proprietary plug but let's get to some standards.
c) Can't print, either to a USB printer or to a wireless printer.
d) Can't multi-task... c'mon... I did a jailbreak on my iPhone to get that... how long before the same is available for this thing with Apple once again screaming 'illegal'.
e) No phone and no phone data service in initial model... OK... I might not hold it to my ear... but I could use a headset.

Time to wait and see what happens next.
Apple sold 40 MILLION iPads in 2011. Have you purchased one yet? Any update on your prognosis?

Jobs is a smart guy, and he knows this better than anyone else, this must have been his most desperate move yet

not being an Apple fan to begin with makes it even easier to ignore this one and watch the sheep go an buy it
Still ignoring it? Or noticing it popping up in meetings everywhere? Even the business guys are carrying them.

Although I have an iPad and an iPhone and Mac's etc. I also have non mac products which I love too!

What I do love is the fact that those who vow to hate apple products tend to do so with equal passion of that they persecute the fanboi's for loving them!

A la Newton's 3rd law!

I believe the kids say now "Hater's gonna hate" or something similar.

I guess the prognosis was made from the perspective of a computer literate while majority of the population is illiterate and they do not care about literacy. I could give a similar prognosis for any ms-windows product and the prognosis would be obviously wrong too. What counts is that this is a very impressive gadget with some good and robust albeit rather selective functionality. Still what seats in is apparently impressive enough.

It's a safe bet to never bet against Apple on anything major. While a lot of the 'magic' is marketing and the name now, there is still some decent tech behind it.

In fairness, you wouldn't have anything to enjoy if Google/Samsung had also ignored it :P

Actually, I don't really believe that for a second. Tablet's and Asus EEEE have been around for a while and there was only one step further than the tablet so it was just a matter of time I reckon. Apple was just quicker on the draw, that all.

Before the iPhone came out, Google was making a Blackberry clone:

Sure, there would have been a tablet, but it would have looked vastly different, and probably would be running a very clunky version of Windows more like your desktop.

I'm surprised nobody's released them earlier. Haven't these companies been paying attention to Star Trek? :)
