need information about salary

Post by germanguy » Thu, 28 Jan 2010 10:58 pm

Hi mates,
I am planning to apply for a postdoc in NUS in the surface chemistry laboratory. I also looked at some other websites to find the salary report for postdocs in singapore. what I found salary of postdocs is around $6k at the Astar institutes. Unfortunately I did not find any salary information for postdocs at the NUS.

Can somebody tell me what kind of salary packages u will get if u want to work as a postdoc in NUS? Specifically talking about hard sciences like physics, chemistry. Do people also get bonus at the universities just like Astar institutes?

I am really curious to know if there is any difference in salary of postodcs at astar institutes and universites or any difference in salary packages for expats and local hires.

waiting for some good answer
thank you and best wishes

Your in a bit of luck. Not that I work at NUS, but I work very closely with their research programmes at the minute - I'm the Editor for the primary publishing partner. So know a lot of the Physics guys there. Many of them expats.

NUS is about $5k for locals at the minute. You may get another $500-1000 out of them for being an expat. So I'd say 5-6k NUS.

You have to remember that University budgets are TIGHT this year. And will be for 2011.

Universities work about a year behind the rest of the world, economically. So their recession will really hit hard in the sector this year I suspect.

Their apetite for paying for for expensive expats to come over may well not be that great this year I suspect. As money will be tight in r+d.

So, if you get an offer, I wouldn't be too hopeful about pushing for a lot of money. I really doubt they will be splashing out on expensive imports in the next 24 months.

May be working at local rates.
