Need to repair laptop, where to go?

Post by Blue Sapphire » Tue, 26 Jan 2010 5:13 pm

I have an Acer laptop that tends to shutdown on its own due to overheating. Want to have it fixed.

Will it be better to take it to the Acer centre or to any PC repair shop? If to a PC shop, any recommendations?

Thanks!

Acer centre without doubt if you think it's worth spending money on! If you think its too old over 3 or 4 years, then you may get a cheaper deal in the heartlands, my only worry would be, getting back the original parts, so save a copy of the system, which details the processor and hardware.

Also depends on your needs, if you only need a mini and not a rolls royce, then scrap it and get a Asus EEEPC though the processor is only like a pda, it works well if you are only surfing, and light work.

if it is overheating, either the fan and vents are full of dust or the fan not working no more. or maybe it could be software related? have scan for malware, spyware and virus. when the laptop is idle, check the cpu is not revving very high (use task manager/performance to check).

should be an easy job. only thing is, dont get con by the repair shop if you are going that route. if it is dust, you can get compressed air to blow it out.
