What's the lowdown on Singapore's internet connection?

Post by aster » Mon, 25 Jan 2010 10:38 am

When you search the net for comments you seem to see only bipolar opinions: to some Singapore has a good internet connection, to others it's abysmal.

My current connection belongs to the tragic category, but this could be a result of the building/internal network/etc. so I don't feel in a position to make a judgment.

I know that there are plans to build a super fast network that will route all international traffic via Hong Kong, but where do we stand NOW?

First you need to define what and why you think is "tragic" or good. People use it for different purposes so their opinions may vary. I believe for somebody who want to get via network a few HD movies a day the connection could be pathetic while for myself the same connection would more than sufficient.

ICA filters results... try reaching the Playboy website... so there is some delay built in because you are going through a gahmen router, at least for international sites.

Overall, I find connections good, and poor service is usually the same as everywhere else... vendor promises, oversubscribes, doesn't get equipment updated, and you get crappy speeds.
