Where did you take her? Some up market Western Doctor? Or are you from one of those countries that have nationalized medicine? I find the costs here extremely reasonable in comparison to, say, a country like the US.

How can we tell you what would be more affordable if we have nothing to compare it to? Perhaps a bit more information?

Agree with SMS I find the medical cost here very reasonable. To the point where I even suggest my chums should pop out for holiday and do a medical at the same time!

I think it was the vaccinations that the poster was talking about... I think in the US and UK the vaccinations are covered - but here they are not and they can be hundreds of dollars at a time at an international clinic. That's just a guess...

Yes, but it's just a guess without knowing what she paid. She did say she was from Sydney where so much is covered. One very sad aspect of the 'Death of the Expat Package' is that responsible companies (that wanted their employees to be productive, of course) helped you understand all this stuff so your transition wasn't so abrupt. Now you have people moving here without the slightest notion of what gas costs, how to research real estate, what the medical costs are ~ the new expat is at the beginning of the learning curve I suspect.

You do realize that vaccinations cost money, whether that cost is passed on to the consumer or not? And what exactly does being a small country have to do with anything? How say, would that apply to real estate or cars? Oh well, sounds like you've got your hands full already...

Small country = Small bills?
And you are qualified to be an Expat? Or was it your husband who was qualified...... sorry, I forgot. Not all trailing spouses are as erudite as road.not.taken
So by that reasoning, considering Australia is "Nationalized" (why would I know that? I'm an American not an Ozzie.) Then by your reasoning, I guess Singapore should be "paying" your for the vaccination?
Welcome to the real world where income taxes are low, low, low (come tax time we want you to come back and complain about how low your tax bill is.) and everything else is high except the medical expenses. Of course you can always go up to Thailand where medical services are even cheaper. Bumrungrad International Hospital is world-class hospital in Bangkok and is considerably cheaper than Singapore.

Tasmania isn't a country no matter what you might think.
Be careful - your questionable upbringing is showing through in the language you are using. This is a family board, so, while it's obvious that you probably use the same kind of language around your kid that you are using here, we would appreciate it if you could refrain from using foul language on this site.
