Anyone seen calf brain or lamb brain on sale in Singapore?

Post by SunWuKong » Tue, 19 Jan 2010 9:29 pm

I've been wanting to try out a brain's recipe for a couple of weeks now, but I don't really want to go wondering through markets on a quest I'm not sure will come to a successful conclusion.

So I'm wondering if anyone can cut down my leg work a little by pointing me in the direction of a market that sells brain.

Cheers.

I may be wrong, but I think calf and lamb brain might not be available in Singapore. Pig brain, on the other hand, can be found in almost every wet market (so depends which one is the nearest to you).

Good lord, what a question! I'd call The Butcher or Huber's or the Swiss Butcher and ask them directly.

Success! Ironically I found a Halal butcher no more than 300m from my front door that sells frozen sheep brain imported from Perth. Specifically in the new open market at Kopitiam Square in Sengkang.

According to the butcher there is no more fresh brain to be had because Singapore no longer allows slaughter. Which kind of makes sense, as I've heard that brain is pretty fragile and only lasts ~24 hours after slaughter.

Otak kambing sedapnya!

Otak not orta :) not to be confused with that stinky fish paste bbq-ed in the banana leaf. Or maybe there is a bit of fish otak in otak otak!

Enjoy your otak!

First thing I thought was that someone was trying to reenact some scene from Indiana Jones - The Temple of Doom... :)
