where you able to apply for the LTPV for your fiance? My understanding is that you can do that only for wife/spouse/commo-law spouse.
(spouse=common-law spouse=wife?)
I'm confused.
I'm in the situation of accepting a job in Singapore and willing to take my girlfriend with me. We are not married and preferably not doing that unless necessary.
any info on the topic that you can share ?

That's easy. If they are living together prior to their wedding (lot's do that you know - it's like buying a care, have to take it for a test ride!
) then, in fact, it's a "de facto" marriage or "common law" marriage as they are "living together" which, with the proper documentation, the government here will recognize and allow the issuance of a LTVP. (May well need your company's sponsorship as well though). Depending on where you are from, I believe the embassy will provide a document that you attest to the relationship. Do a search of the threads here for 'de facto' and/or 'common law' for more.....

I heard of several other people that obtained the LTVP for their GFs, they were in the same situation as us.
Basically you need to prove that you are a de-facto couple, in my case we provided a copy of the rental contract we used to have before landing in SG (both names in the contract, proof that we were living together);
we went also to our embassy and asked for a simple paper where they state we're a de-facto couple (not a formal certificatem just plain declaration, infact in Italy de-facto couple are still a bit grey topic, there's no proper laws about it).
Then your employer must sponsor the application, just refer to the LTVP application form for details.
In the form just tick the "common-law spouse" among the options.
I didn't have problems and obtaining the LTVP was straightforward, I think it also depends on which work pass you have, in my case it's an EP type P2 (2 years) maybe for shorter lasting work pass they won't accept the application (I don't know, just wondering).
hope this helps

thank you for the info. This is great news!!!
I will go deeper with my research and have to confirm the scenario with my company. They said will sponsor for a DS, but since she is not my legally wife, DS will not work.
Would there be a difference for the company to sponsor a DP or LTVP ?
What does sponsor really means ?
Thank you again guys!
I didn't check the DP details, so I can't tell the differences.BazaY wrote:

Btw for the LTVP, you can check the application form, this section:
"PART 5 – DECLARATION BY LOCAL SPONSOR"
it give details about what the sponsor is declaring.
MOM LTVP link: http://www.mom.gov.sg/publish/momportal ... on.html#MA
He he.. I did a fast check on MOM-DP link:adione wrote:

"PART 5 – DECLARATION BY LOCAL SPONSOR" from DP is identically with the one from LTVP.
.... so .. apparently, .. there is no difference.
@SMS: you seem to be with a lot of experience in these matters. Can you please confirm ?

There is no difference. Just have the employer verify, sign and chop the annex for local sponsorship. No problem as long as the requirement for being a "de facto" spouse have been met to the MOM's satisfaction.

I don't believe the OP even asked that question and, as he's been on the MOM site already, I'm pretty sure he's aware of that and it's probably why he didn't mention it. Course I might be wrong - it wouldn't be the first time!ksl wrote:Though she will not be allowed to work on the LTSVP!

update:
MOM application form for LTDP requires a paper from the National Local Embassy proving that the 2 are common-law spouse.
Well ... depending on the country you come from, this may not be so straight fw.
We are from Romania, and in the romanian law, common-law spouse does not exist. If common-law spouse does not exist then the embassy will not be able to provide that paper. And without the paper from the embassy, it is impossible to apply to.
only in june, romanian law will recognize the fiancee status, but I do not know if fiancee=common law spouse.
q: fiancee=common-law spouse ?
Any other thoughts ?
thanks
PS: On the other hand, romanian consul in Singapore is "out of the game" for a while. Apparently he has some unsolved "driving problems"
. I was able to speak only with another employee which may not have all info.

What a very Diplomatic way of putting it, I think being involved in 2 hit and run accidents which involved in a death and then skipping the country if slightly more than a "driving problem"BazaY wrote:

Well, ... I agree with you, .. but It does not worth to get into details. Sooner or later, in a way or another he will pay for his actions.Saint wrote: What a very Diplomatic way of putting it, I think being involved in 2 hit and run accidents which involved in a death and then skipping the country if slightly more than a "driving problem"
However, .. this is not the topic of out discussion. Thank you for understanding.

Actually, I think that would be an excellent topic.
"Should foreign ambassadors be held liable for their illegal actions in foreign countries that they are assigned to?"
and to go further on the same topic,
Should diplomats be extradited back to the country they committed the crime in if they do a runner like a coward?
and one step further, should citizens of the same country be allowed into the country the crime was committed in while the fleeing diplomat remains at large?
As this isn't the strictly speaking forum we can digress.
