The UAE is a third-world, censorship-obsessed (try to criticize the head honchos there and the entire daily edition, even of an international newspaper, gets removed from the shelves ), one-trick pony investment bubble with utterly primitive laws (having sex, not married? PRISON!) to complement the entire package.

Some people tell me that the UAE and Singapore are similar, that both are in a way striving to be #1 in certain areas, but I think they got it all wrong. If Singapore is in the Premiership, the UAE are stuck in the third division and threatened with relegation...

No, the UAE and Singapore are more similar than you'd think. Singapore has its warts, but it's way better than anything else in the neighborhood... and precisely the same applies to the UAE. (Ever been to, say, Saudi or Kuwait?)
