Which hospital is considered best for Nuero Surgery here?

Post by hg » Tue, 22 Dec 2009 4:31 pm

Someone in my family may need a procedure to remove a Meningioma and I don't know the landscape here. I have taken the online appointment at SGH for consultation, but its for 5th Jan and I wanted to gather more opinions in the mean time.

I also have no idea on how much will it cost here. In India it would have cost around 4000-6000 SGD. Any one knows?

i'm pretty certain it will cost you more than what you will pay in India.

there's no such thing as a "best" hospital for brain surgery.

the best hospital is one that the surgeon(s) is most comfortable and familiar with.

good neuro-surgeons can be found both in public and private sectors - they will be more at home in facilities they usually use.

all hospitals in singapore are of high international standards: even at SGH (NCC?), you're in pretty good hands.

perhaps you should be asking: which neuro-surgeons come highly recommended in singapore?

Dr.Prem Pillay @ Mt.Elizabeth...best by far.

I've been to Raffles, KK, TTSH in search of a good neurosurgeon for my son. After 4 years of my end less trips to various hospitals, I found Dr.Pillay and I've been a happy man ever since. His diagnosis is precise and accurate and so is the prognosis.

The cost of a minor, minimally invasive endoscopy was quoted at $25K and the same was quoted $4K by Apollo Hospitals in India. I believe this ratio of 1:6 holds true for most medical costs compared to India and Singapore respectively.

We still haven't decided whether to get it done in Singapore or India, as the surgery is not a must...yet.
It's in my blood. B(e) Positive.

I found Dr Alvin Hong of Gleneagles a very nice bloke, and seems to know what he is talking about, did not use him in the end as I ended up going to the US for the operation.

He is a good starting point at least his office is tastefully decorated and tidy, (amazing how many surgeries look like some 70s karaoke bar throw back)

Good luck
