Potatoes, PoTAtoes...

Post by Girl_Next_Door » Wed, 16 Dec 2009 11:38 am

I am cooking mashed potatoes for Xmas and my recipe requires yukon gold potatoes.

I can't seems to find them in supermarket here. Anyone know where I can get them and/or alternatives, i.e. russets?

Jelita cold storage - however, they do not always have in stock, maybe call first and find out - but they do have a selection of different varieties.

The washed potatoes in the bag at Marketplace (or Cold Storage) are very similar to Yukon Gold. They are small and yellow and creamy when mashed.

sometimes you get Yukon gold at Fairprice but stock is erratic and they might be off the shelves for weeks at a time.

We eat mashed potatoes quite a bit in our house and I usually buy the big bags of USA potatoes at giant or cold storage (I think it's 2.5 kg) - they do the job fine, good for roasties too.
