Post by Alex85 » Wed, 16 Dec 2009 10:20 am

Hi there, I'm looking to move to Singapore in the middle of 2010 and would like to know what area I should live in to meet other young like minded people. I will be working in raffles place an have been looking around district 1 - clarke quay boat quay marina Chinatown etc. Is this where I should be looking and what are some good apartment buildings? Budget S$3000-$4000+ for 1 bedroom. Any help would be greatly appreciated cheers alex.

Hey Alex,

You will have no problems getting a 1 bed place for 3-4k in the areas you mentioned. I live at the The Sail which is at Marina Bay and loads of other expats live there too. It is right in the CBD, walking distance to boat quay, clarke quay and chinatown so its a really easy place to live. On site there are a number of restaurants, delis, bars, even a hairdresser, dry cleaner and doctor!!

If you need any help or want to catch up for a drink when you arrive, just give me a shout. I have been here for a year now and still love the place, loads of great people and plenty to do if your up for partying!

Hi Alex,
I'm a local who has lived in Aust for a number of years and am now back in Singapore.
For that kinda price that you are willing to pay, check out Central Green condo, search google. It is just 1min away from the Tiong Bahru MRT station which is only about 3 stops away by MRT (train) to Raffles Place. Central Green Condo also has the Tiong Bahru Plaza right next to it, so you can get your groceries and food and banks, almost everything you need.
As for the expat area where there are lots of Aussies, Tanglin Mall (shopping mall) is where almost half the people shopping there are Aussies. If you dont mind staying around that area, google Tanglin Mall and check out the apartments over there, but it is not as convenient to travel to Raffles Place although it is not far from Raffles Place, cos there isnt an MRT station nearby.
Great World City (shopping mall) is another expat area full of expats, but not too sure if they are Aussies. Same problem in terms of transport over there to Raffles Place.
All The Best Mate!
