Real 'Top' jobs in Singapore?

Post by Clint01 » Wed, 09 Dec 2009 9:08 am

Hi Y'all!!

very informative forum with good insights on the 'challenges' in the Singapore job market!!

Maybe a stupid question from my side. I have a really well paid job in Central Europe today, responsible for some global IT areas in a large MNC. Nonetheless, I fell in love with Singapore some years ago, and it's not fading. Now, my question - where do I find real top jobs - Director, VP or CxO level jobs for Singapore on the WWW? Are these jobs posted at all? Are there specific recruitment agencies that have a good track record with such jobs??

Any advice will be appreciated.
Thanks!
Clint

aren't these jobs usually handled by a HR agency, who in turn headhunts suitable candidates?

i always thought most companies wouldn't openly advertise such positions... maybe you should contact such agencies?

(i don't know, sorry, just my 2c)

You need to mix with the right people, networking with those executives who can point you in the right direction, there are a few high flyers on linkedin.com.

Though if you are that good, why aren't you running your own business here offering the service, you want the bucks but not the risk, most of the agencies will take your CV but I doubt anyone will just place you in a position, like you are wanting, if you cannot solve such a little problem of locating the right people to contact for these type of positions. Just my 2 cents. No pun intended.

I'd second taxico. Those jobs are not normally advertised at all, it's the personal network you need to have.

The local experienced (20++ years of experience) IT guys all seem to know each other and as normal for a highlevel role they'd be unlikely to hire a newcomer. So you best chance is to get transferred within a company from Europe to Singapore or find an ex-boss who gets transferred to Singapore and is building up a new trusted team.

I'm not saying it is totally impossible to get hired directly, but really highlevel jobs in IT (as in any other area) are all about networking.
