and pls go and open yr eyes, our standard of written english is much better than most countries in Asia and defintely our accent is better than u indians who are laughing stock to the locals with funny indian accent...

u laugh at us and we laugh at u. whats great?
thats really a funny statement...I consider Singlish to be a language and not an accent. I have worked with westerners and also locals . I had to ask the local guys to repeat atleast 2-3 times on what they are trying to say..We atleast speak english but you do not speak english but singlish

This is a not a sex forum idiot, get lost to your geylang where most of your fellow work permit workers hang out

As for Singlish is concern, we are in Singapore, like it or not thats the ruling accent,
most Singaporeans and Malaysians consider Indian accent to be of a real joke, Indians might be proud of their accent but it is indeed a strong accent joke for most Chinese and Malays , remember we are not in India but in Singapore, if we were to challenge the locals of their Singlish trying to so call make fun, it is we who will be at lost.

Don't want to split hairs here, but Singlish is NOT an accent. It's just a very poor bastardization of English without proper English sentence structure or grammar. It's more akin to creole or pidgin than it is to English. An accent is the voice inflection given to the tone of speaking, not the actual words that are spoken.

B_T, the message I believe was Chillax! or something like that! Hey, couldn't resist that bro! We got to get together for another beer binge pretty soon! That is if you can pull yourself away from work!

absolutely true,i may agree with you but too bad , Indian accent vs Singlish, Indian accent will be indeed a laughing factor .

The local Singlish speaker will ask you, why come here if you think you are too great, now you see where we stand, whether we are prof or not it is besides the point, but most consider, hiring of China and Indian S pass and E pass workers as merely cheap labours, as in locals employers finding ways to pay lower wages that they employe foreign talents .

Amit Ram,

Be careful what you wish for. Oh, as an HR Manager, I can also vouch for quite a few India Indians who are here on P2 and P1 passes as well. This is especially so in the Financial and IT sectors. The medical profession isn't far behind either. So I might back off the Bangla/S/WP knocks if I were you. You might think their accents are funny, but hell, as a Yank I think Aussie & British accents are funny as well, and the Welsh are totally incomprehensible but that's just me with my own brand of English accent. But, we Brits, Yanks, Aussies all speak English with English grammar & sentence structure as do the English speaking Indians from India as well. And at least, while their English is what is considered Shakesperian English of a couple hundred years ago, it is still proper English, albeit a bit too flowery for my liking (I've read thousands of Indian CV's in the past 14 years as a headhunter and HR Manager)! I've also read(?) my share of local ones as well - the less said there the better.

Well some of them will never understand and go by the general POV of a issue rather than making their own POV.
Its high time we shut this thread else it may turn into nasty discussion.

dont be too happy u people. What if the SG govt may implement some min wage for locals, citizens and a free wage for foreigners in the future

this way locals may earn more but foreigners will be here to cut cost..

u are all nothing but used and discarded by the govt..there are already worker domitories set up by the govt to house u all like coolies

cheap foreign labour. What those s-pass, E-pass ect is equal t one scheme which was found in australia in 2004 where foreign workers had no rights, no privileges ect.. THis visa scheme has since then been abolished by the OZ govt.

Amit Ram,
you are saying he doesnt look like a north indian[who are the goodlooking??] or he looks like Rajnikanth or Bangladeshi's [who are ugly??]

from your post, you maybe an equal bigot when compared to the metropolitan guy. Maybe you want to look at your attitude too towards other people [esp a bangladeshi living here for 20 years or work permit holders who seemingly hang around geylang area] :)

yr indian accent is a laughing stock among local indians as well..
and rest of the world stereotypes yr accent as funny..
But the rest of the world does not even know singlish exist..

Go figure that out...

Singlish is nothing but a juxtaposing of the local chinese slang and english..
Its not a language or accent..

but u india indians have an accent which is laughable to the local chinese , malays and indians.

also when singaporeans go overseas we dont talk in singlish to the locals there except to one another whereas u indians go to anywhere have the same stupid accent.

When western foreigners migrate here , they adopt this singlish and when india indians migrate here, they liek to bring their stupid accent and force it on everybody, u sickening indians

This is singapore, not Hindustan

Metro,
whats wrong in having an accent for a language [that seems funny to others or not.. doesnt matter]?

a while ago, you seemingly ditched Singlish as a fad and that you dont speak it. Now, you want the foreigners to speak only Singlish when they are in Singapore... Make up your mind!
