Moving to Canada with my 2 dogs

Post by canadamaple » Fri, 27 Nov 2009 7:42 pm

G'day,

I just received my Canadian visa, and I intend to move with my husband and my 2 dogs to Toronto/Vancouver next year Apr/May.

My 2 dogs are a husky and a doberman.

I'm not too sure how to bring my 2 dogs along with me. I don't intend to use any agent/mover and I plan to do this myself.

Can anyone advise me on the procedure. Which carrier can accommodate my 2 dogs with Vari-Kennel crates and roughly how much the costing will be?

Need help here. Thank you in advance!

There is lots of useful info in this forum (check the sticky at the top of the thread list). One word of advice is plan ahead. We are coming down to the wire with getting all the tests for the December 15th export of our dog. I’d highly recommend getting your hands on ALL your dogs’ medical records and scanning them into PDF form. This makes it much easier to submit along with your application. There is a very specific protocol of what tests/shots the dog must get.

I’m not sure of the rules coming from Canada, but coming from the US mainland required LOTS of forms and documentation. If your animal has to go into quarantine, you will receive your confirmation about 30 days in advance of arrival; however, you must submit your reservation request about 3-4 months in advance of export.

Hope this helps and feel free to PM me with other questions. Also, I’ve been in contact with people in Singapore via phone and e-mail so I can PM you their contact information if you need that.

Cheers!
VG

PS: We are using a professional service for the transport of our dog. We found these companies are more familiar with all the rules and regulations (i.e., the crate size). We have an intermediate size crate on Cathay Pacific for our Jack Russell.

Thanks VegasGuy!

I'm going from Singapore to Canada, and I'm more keen to know of the procedure and medicals required by Canada authorities.

I have all my dog's medicals, docs and papers. So no prob with that.

I also would like to find out which carrier I can use to fly my dogs, and the estimated costs.

Thanks! :)

Anytime.

As a side note, most airlines websites have the information about transporting pets. Singapore Airlines would not take our terrier, even in the cargo area. We have had good luck with Cathay Pacific via Hong Kong.
