Cold Cathode Fluorescent lamps

Post by ksl » Mon, 16 Nov 2009 12:55 am

This technology took off around the same time as the back lights in LCD TV's, each lamp saves energy and is environmental friendly. I guess street lighting and neon lights will use this technology. My question is, is it being used in Singapore yet, and is there a future for it? If you want the business then drop me a line! I'm too busy to get involved in it!

CCFL's have been around for a while. The primary problem is cost. For an equivalent CCFL bulb, to replace the hot fluorescent kind, means an outlay of US$ 28 versus US$ 15 or less. It takes complex high voltage circuitry to run a CCFL; hence the cost.

Personally, I think that white LED's will soon surpass CCFL as a technology of choice.

PS: Neon is a kind of CCFL.

Yes I think LED's will surpass CCFL without a doubt. I have been given a cost price of 500 TW$ around 15.59 with a saving in energy and longer life cycle than the normal bulbs. But LED will most likely be the better choice eventually.
